Solving School challenges One Intervention At A Time

Closing the Gap in Special Education

Closing the learning gap and accelerating the academic growth of the diverse learners in schools have historically been challenging goals to both administrators and teachers. State reports of assessment data and AYP data for students with disabilities shows a decrease in most districts’ ability to meet increasingly challenging accountability targets. The new standards and accountability measures will require strategic and specific instructional skills to meet those goals and support students with special needs.

Meeting these educational needs requires special teaching skills.  Teachers must provide instruction that is differentiated and scaffolded to make the grade-level standards accessible to students. EDCO’s consultants bring effective strategies such as co-teaching, inclusion and team teaching into the classroom to address critical issues that often overwhelm the teachers of special needs students.  We coach teachers in content, classroom and behavioral management, instructional and learning strategies, progress monitoring, and appropriate accommodations for instruction and assessments as well as supporting them with pragmatic issues that arise as a result of these new strategies (scheduling, planning time, scaffolded instruction).

Collaborating successfully to meet grade level standards for students with special needs

We work collaboratively to set goals and enable educators to minimize the impact of barriers that frequently prevent students with special needs from mastering content and successfully meeting grade level standards. We partner to foster a culture of learning that provides preventative measures from the negative impacts of low graduation rates for students with special needs and widening achievement gaps for the IEP subgroup. As a result of our professional learning services, your students will show sufficient growth and meet the targets set by your state’s ESEA waiver process.

It’s rare when you encounter a staff development experience that is inspiring, relevant to the life experiences of the students and community you serve, and affords an opportunity for practical application of the concepts you’ve learned in the form of scaffolded planning. Thank you.”
